Keep on Learning and Growing...

I have said in the past I hate Photoshop...it's a highly respected and globally used software. I just couldn't quite figure it all out on my own. The past few months, and especially this weekend, I spent time with my enemy. I was open to learning about how I could work with it...and bam! I get it! It's not really hard, just have to devote some time to it.

I do most of my photo editing in LightRoom, another adobe product, that I mostly was able to teach myself. I like the fast lane to learning and LightRoom got the job done for me.

With that, I try to be open to all new things and ways of doing things. But, if it works how you are doing things, that's ok, too. So, I am happy to have some new skills in my photographer's tool chest and plan to use them all! :) What do you want to learn but just haven't gotten to it? What's holding you back?

High School Seniors are Awesome!

It's been such a great experience working with high school seniors. I am blown away by how sweet they are, they are open to try new things and have fun. Their spirit is pure and they are excited about their future.

Why I love Weddings...

My now husband and I got engaged shortly after we moved across the country to Seattle, Washington. I was ready...I was 31 and so excited. I always knew I would get married one day. There was no rush. I had lots of fun in my 20's...I highly recommend that! Travel, live with girlfriends, by a new car of your very own, be successful in your career, etc.

I flourished in my planning three thousand miles away...I traveled back to Massachusetts every other month and made the plans happen. Everything went smoothly, for the most part, for our planning of our big day. I even connected online to other brides planning weddings in our month (and still keep in touch with some of them...they are awesome!)

As I work in the Wedding Arena in New England, I get giddy with excitement all over again. Talking to brides and their fiance's about their plans really gets me so excited. I am thrilled to be a part of the wedding field, helping brides and grooms with capturing the emotion of their day...creating the perfect package for them and their desires and needs.

I thought it was awesome to see a photograph I had staged is still on our wedding photographer's page almost twelve years later. I enjoyed our wedding photographer, but I wish I had shopped around a little to find someone we connected with personally. Our images are awesome and we love our wedding album.

I have decided only to do one wedding per month. I want to give that wedding my all...I don't want them to have to wait too long for their images and products like albums and wall art. Also, my family is a priority too. :)

Bridal Fair Time!

Gearing up to do my first ever Bridal Fair tomorrow! So much preparation...and I committed just a couple weeks ago.

I am so excited to meet engaged ladies and chat with them about their plans for their wedding day. It was a blast when I was planning mine and so thrilled to be a part of others' excitement as well.

As 2011 ended, I was pleased with my accomplishments. I started the year by going to PPA's Imaging USA in San Antonio and continued my investment in education though the year. The highlight being the New England Institute of Professional Photography in April, forty hours of hands on learning on Cape Cod was amazing!

From that point on, things really started happening...working with happy families (mostly), awesome newborns, more dancers, high school seniors and even some weddings! Onto the fall minis, Santa, and family sessions for holiday cards. Also, I connected with a great corporation that hired me to do commercial work for them. Photoshop, which has been a thorn in my side for years, I learned enough to create over 1500 photo cards this past season. That is an accomplishment for me!

So, I look back with such gratitude for awesome people that I worked with and hope to continue working with in the future. It's so fun to meet such nice people celebrating happy times in their lives. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to make this career happen!

I love the possibilities of the New Year. Clean slate, great new energy, so much to look forward to! About a week ago, when wrapping Christmas gifts, I started thinking about creating specific goals to achieve for the year. Suddenly, I get excited, butterflies and all on what I plan to make happen. My brain goes all adhd and I am all over the place (not much different from my daily life...but perhaps more intense).

Here are a few I am ready to commit to:

1. Starting January 2nd with a three week cleanse, only healthy food in, no sugar, no vino, no kidding.
This will be the first step to recreating my healthy body...I need a jumpstart and am going to fit back into all of my cute clothes in my closet. I have seen a variety of health practitioners; the last of which has taken seven viles of my blood to see what is really going on. My next appointment is 1/10. Hoping to hear all is well, and if not, to get things back in balance.

2. Business (much more to follow and my goals do have specific steps...just don't want to bore you)
Booking at least three weddings in 2012 where I am the lead Photographer. Never doing more than one in a month.
Growing my Newborn Business with partnerships; goal is 24 Newborn shoots in 2012.
Attend NEIPP again in April to continue with my education...never stop learning and growing.
Connect with more corporate clients and grow that side of my business.

3. Keeping positive; surrounding myself with positive people who inspire growth.

4. Spirituality; keeping focus on gratitude and regular prayer.

5. Family first. Always.

It helps me to type these out. There are more to come, but now I need to do some work in the garage. My adhd continues as I step away from the computer only to come back later and try to finish something! :)

Honestly, I wasn't so sure about working with High School peeps. I am used to relating to little ones low to the ground...but it has been such a lovely surprise to be so wonderful and rewarding. I made a mom cry today as she looked at her baby's photos. We have found some beautiful spots to venture to together and I look forward to many more!

A beautiful sunny July day in Meredith, New Hampshire, right next to Lake Winniepesaukee, a sweet couple said "I do". I was lucky to be able to help a friend in capturing all the magic of the day.

Design and Decor by Private Weddings and Events, florals by Emily Herzig Floral Studio and the reception venue was Lake Opechee Inn and Spa in Laconia, New Hampshire. Wedding venue was Church Landing in Meredith, New Hampshire.

Maternity Portraiture

Pregnant ladies just glow. They are so happy and can't wait for their new one to make an arrival. It's fun to capture all of this in photos for them to remember this quick window of time.

I am always amazed with pregnancy. Mostly, everything happens in perfect order. A human being is created and grows and follows a step by step plan. And, at the end of nine months, we get to welcome our new love into the world.

I did have my Pregnancy Photos done. At the time, I didn't much care for them (thought I looked fat, unattractive, etc). Now, I am so happy to have them to remember that brief time in my life. I hope you consider getting some Maternity Photos done, if only to put them on a shelf for you to visit.

And, yes, it is true...your life will never be the same. It will be filled with another to love and share your world with...and you will have your own family!

As much as I try, I fall behind...but that is a good thing. How so you wonder? It means my life is bursting at the seams with love, friends, fun and photography. I am in catching up mode and wanted to pop in here and say hello before I get outside to enjoy this summer day!

My girls head back to school this coming week, so early, but it is what it is. (does anyone really like that saying?) This will allow me to devote the many hours I need to catch up on everything from organizing my office to folding laundry to editing beautiful moments captured.

For the time being, take a quick peek of some summer fun...and enjoy every minute. :)

Having had two of my very own, I know the magic of Newborns. They are so tiny, so sweet and innocent and grow so fast. All the while mom and dad are in a sleep deprived daze! I love working with tiny babies, creating the perfect peaceful environment and helping them into the coziest of poses.

Ok, I have never shared much about me...except for the fact I love photography...so, here goes...ten random facts:

1. I love playing tennis, but it can stress me out. I want to win and do well, if I am not doing well, I am stressed out. Sigh.
2. I love animals...we have an eleven year old black lab named Beaumont. Also, two cats names Lola (10) and Jack almost (3). They all get a long, pretty well. I don't mind twisting and turning in my sleep to avoid to bother the kitties. :)
3. I wish my mom pushed me to stay in activities when I was younger. I tried dance (ballet, jazz, tap), gymnastics, skating when I was younger. My mom said I complained and she didn't sign me up again. My kids complain and I still push them. I wish she pushed me to stick with something!
4. I had the highest IQ in my kindergarten class. Not sure what it was, but they gave me books to read with another smart boy named Billy Mellhouse. Wonder where he is now.
5. I love cars, nice cars and am so lucky to have a nice car. :) Driving is fun in the right car.
6. My feet are a size 11. It stinks. What really stinks is they used to be a size 10/10.5 until I had kids. A whole new shoe wardrobe was in order, and I got some great deals and have awesome shoes.
7. My first brand new car was a Honda Del Sol. It was white. It was named the Tic Tac. I loved that car and it's removable roof and two seats. I drove it for eight years and sold it for $6k in Seattle before buying my dream car.
8. I am not a morning person. Enough said.
9. I avoid gluten. Yes, no subway sandwhiches for me. No pizza. No wonder bread or pasta (unless it's rice pasta!). My body just says "no thank you" in it's own way.
10. I lived in Seattle for seven years. I think everyone should live away from where they grew up. It's awesome to move somewhere, start a new job and meet new people...creating a life! I loved the life we had in Seattle; it just wasn't home. I love and miss my friends there often. It was an amazing experience. Both of our girls and our dog and one of our cats were all born in Seattle! And, yes, it does rain a lot...from November to April...but it is also 50 degrees almost every day of the year. (even in the summer) But, it is sure beautiful when the skies are clear...and it stays light until 10pm. :)

As a photographer, I hate (yes, hate) using the pop up flash on my camera. I don't care to use my bigger flash on my camera, either. Sometimes you need to, but mostly, you really don't. All of these photos were taken during NEIPP finding the available light inside on a grey, rainy day on Cape Cod.

It's been a wild six weeks here!

In March, two of my prints won awards at the New Hampshire Professional Photography Association's annual conference. I was thrilled and look forward to entering more next year and aiming higher! It's nerve wracking as you sit in a dark room and one print at a time is judged by a high level of photographer from the PPA. Another goal achieved...many more to come!

April, I attended the New England Institute of Professional Photography in April and have been so busy ever since! I am so excited about all I have learned and where my photography business is headed. I am trying to juggle it all, as usual for me.

I love weddings. Planning my wedding was so fun...even if it was 3,000 miles away! The internet was relatively new ten years ago and I have a blast getting all the details set.

It's not surprising to me that my Photographic journey is pointing me in this direction. I am looking forward to opportunities to capture the most of memorable days for people.

Lots of hours have been invested and more are soon to come! I am not one of those, "hey I got a new camera let me be a photographer" peeps. I have been studying for a couple years now and learning all I can through numerous resources. In two weeks, I will be heading to Cape Cod for a week of intensive training with NEIPP. This is going to be amazing! Five days with two amazing teachers.

I love learning and look forward to applying all I learn to create what you dream of!

Yesterday, I drove two hours to Connecticut to see Jasmine Star. Since I began studying Photography, I have been reading about her and following her blog. What an inspiration to listen to her story and meet her in person.

She hasn't been at her Photography career long (2006!), but has made a splash. She had a couple of lucky breaks and encounters, but she has done so very well for herself and now is an A list Wedding Photographer.

Her focus is on doing good and helping others. I agree with this wholeheartedly. You get what you give. And, that the tortoise does always win. Little by little, I will get there! Every day I am closer to my goals. Whether it's advancing a rank in tennis or a certain earning level, with hard work and focus, I am on my way. And, I will continue to give back along the way how ever I can!

Work Hard, Play Hard

This has always been my philosophy. Funny how my play is mirroring my work.

After 22 years, I picked up a tennis racquet again last summer. I wasn't sure how it would go, because, I wasn't even so fabulous the last time I played (in high school). I took lessons, practiced and set a goal for myself...to achieve a certain level by the end of the summer. I did it! And then, got crazier and joined a team for winter play. I kept practicing and taking lessons and hey, I was getting better. The Captain asked me to play first doubles. Wow, really?

First match, we win! Second, we were slaughtered. It was painful. I wanted to cry. (There were tears during one practice game, actually) Who did I think I was thinking I could play tennis? I was never the athletic type. I should just go back to crafting and be done with it. Nope. Kept practicing and playing and realigned my thinking. Played again in a match yesterday and we won. Played at practice today, and didn't do very well. Must keep practicing and learning to move forward! It's a lifetime sport, right?

Anyhow, I share this story because it has hit me recently Tennis is like Photography. I have studied and practiced and taken a zillion lessons (seminars, classes, etc). Some days I feel like the best Photographer on the planet (well, not really, just making a point) and the next day, I am frustrated. But, I know this is my path and I continue on learning, practicing and realigning my goals.

Professional Photographers aren't born when they are handed a nice camera. They grow from the time invested in the craft and in learning...and the learning never stops.

Life can be like a roller coaster or like a merry go round. I have always chosen the roller coaster. It's a wild ride, but worth at the end when you get off and are so exhilarated, you can't wait to get on again!

I am so excited to go and celebrate Love Your Pet day tomorrow at the Animal Rescue League in Bedford, NH. I love working with animals. They are always kind (so far...) and happy. They always want to play.
I love just getting on the floor, or ground, and being with them, long enough they stop noticing me.

Tomorrow will be a taste of Pet Photography at the Animal Rescue League. No charge mini sessions for your pet (and you if you would like!). I have put together some great packages, too, to make sure you have some art for your home (and office) of your fuzzy family members.

It's time. The snow banks in my yard are going to be around until June...they are so tall, we have to hire a front loader to come and remove them!
Thank you Mr. Groundhog for tempting us with the promise that Spring is coming. But, it just doesn't seem likely today. Today, snow day #?.
I love snow days. But..I love summer even more. I want to have a fun in the sun contest!

As I prepare to leave for my first trip to the PPA's Imaging USA, the largest photography conference in the world, I reflect on my growth thus far. It's been wild and wonderful. I started learning about two years ago and immersed myself in classes, online webinars, correspondence classes with the New York Institute of Photography, reading, living and doing.

I am presenting my personal favorites of 2010. There are so many, it was hard to chose. I was able to work with beautiful people and families this year. I look forward to more in the future.

What I want to do to give back some love is a contest. For everyone who "likes" a photo in my best of 2010 album a vote will be given to that photograph. The photo with the most votes will win a session at no cost and an 8x10 photograph ($150 value).

Welcome 2011!

There are times in your life you know things are going to be great! We all go through rough patches, but life in general is a good thing. I have learned to be grateful and appreciate what I have been given and try to give to others to share joy or lighten a load.

As I look at the year ahead, I have great expectations of myself and my photography business...I hope you do as well. First and foremost, I want to thank so many for making 2010 a great year!

I will be sharing my “best of” photographs of the year and hope you will share them as well.

I am preparing to go to the PPA (professional photographers of America)’s annual Imaging USA to get some intense learning next week. It’s going to be great and I cannot wait to share new ideas and techniques.

I love New England. Beach photos are so awesome! And, we probably will get a couple more warm days to put our toes in the sand. I would love to run out to the seacoast with you and get those final moments of you and your family together. Beach photography is classic and will create a piece of art to display in your home for many decades to come!

I love babies! I miss the moments when my girls were babies. It was so fun to sit and work with miss baby A. She was so calm, just like her mom. She was so well behaved, we got lots of fun pics and she got her morning nap during the session. I am working on a baby plan, so if you have a baby, or are pregnant...or have a friend/family member who is expecting...send them my way!

This summer, Ballet Misha in Manchester, NH, practiced for seven weeks for the ballet Midsummer Night's Dream. It was an fun show to be a part of and capture to share with all. So many amazing dancers telling a great story! Amy Fortier always does a fabulous job with her productions. These photos are from the dress rehearsal on August 20, 2010.

My first job is a full time mom to two girls, 8 and 6. This summer, we decided to forego summer camps in exchange to be together and join the local swim and tennis club. We had a blast! Days started with sleeping late and off to swim lessons for 10:50, lunch and then tennis lessons and more swimming. While there was a certain amount of whining and complaining; the girls and I had fun, learned new skills (with coaxing from the lifeguards) learned to jump off the diving board and how to properly hit forehand and backhands.
Yesterday was the last day to swim at our club. We swam and ate dinner with friends. The summer is winding down.
The girls started school last week. Both of my cherubs are in school full time now. Long days for all of us. So far, so good. I have been reflecting on the past 8+ years in my mom career...thinking about how long the days used to seem, stressing from 4-6 when my oldest had colic and cried endlessly and into toddlerhood when she didn't walk on time. One worry spilled onto the next but soon was resolved. Spending time with my new mom friends, the days seemed endless. Enjoyed all the fun of gymboree classes, my first moms' group in Seattle (when my oldest was ten days old!), days walking our dog to Lake Washington in the jogging stroller and just swinging in the little bucket swing at the park.
Playdates grew and evolved. Now they pick their own. They have opinions and perceptions of their own. As I try to celebrate each phase, and each one is amazing, truly, I like to remember those long days at the beginning. Driving home with just one cherub in the back seat thinking "I have the best job in the world". I do.
I know here I am a Photographer. But, I want people to know I am much more than that!
Enjoy your babies, the rollercoaster of parenting....soon enough your cherubs will walk on the big yellow bus. Thank God they still come home at the end of the day! And, I am so lucky to be able to be home with them and hear all about their day, host playdates, drive them to cheer practice, etc. I am lucky, too, to have found and developed my passion of photography! I have the best of both worlds. Funny, can't write that without hearing Hannah Montana singing in my head.

Puppies!!!

Foster parents to puppies are amazing people. They take in many puppies, or dogs, at a time in order to save them from being euthanized. I was thrilled to spend time with one group of them on a spring day, we romped and played and I got lots of love and kisses from them!

don't you just want to squeeze them? they were all so sweet!

It's been a winter of learning so much about photography! Taking many Photo Festival classes with the NHPPA (New Hampshire Professional Photographer's Association), Winter Seminar, Mini Mondays and the New York Institute of Photography...I have been one busy lady! Add to that a family and a home, it's been a wild time.
This weekend I am off to the annual conference in North Conway with the NHPPA; four days of learning ahead of me.

Squeezing in some practice time, here are some pictures to share:

Spring is so close...

Although I (not so) secretly hope for another storm to go snow shoeing one more time with my family, I look forward to the rebirth of all things sleeping in winter. I celebrate all seasons, but March in New England is truly the brown month. It's caught between winter and spring and not so pretty! At least with some snow, some of the brown is hidden.

Soon will come the the flowy Easter dresses and bonnets, tulips and buds on all of the trees, boys in sweater vests and pastel colors all around. If you have some special spring occasions you want captured for all time, I am available to you. Easter, Communion, birthdays, spring...so much to celebrate!

I have chosen to immerse myself this winter in all things Photography. It's time consuming, but worth it. We all write our own story and I have chosen this to be part of mine. We each have the power to create what we want our life to be, it's so empowering when you think about it and decide to take action to make it happen.

This month I have been busy learning with the NHPPA's Photo Festival. They run a series of classes in the winter and I have been attending each and every one of them. It's exciting to be learning so much and meeting such kind business people. This is a great group of people with amazing experience; the best part is they are so willing to share with us newbies and help us grow. And, a lot of them have been in the business for decades and still learning. I love that. Never stop learning!
Classes thus far have been on lighting, posing, photoshop, business practices, etc. Now to just put it into practice and apply! Stay tuned for more.

A Princess turns 4!

One of the ways I want to share my services is to be your family's photographer at your events. How many times have we run all around at our child's birthday party trying to get all the important moments with our cameras. It really adds to the stress of the day when you are running a party. It's nice to have someone there, like me, to act as a quiet guest focused only on capturing the moments of the day. I am happy to do this affordably for your family while I am portfolio building.

It's been a wild and wonderful month for our family. One daughter in the Nutcracker, then off to Disney World, come home to the week of Christmas, family visiting, New Year and both girls' birthdays, separate parties this year....phew!
I have taken a large number (understatement) of pictures throughout our adventures and will be posting them soon.
I just wanted to take a minute to wish you a Happy New Year. I love the clean slate, new start feeling. It's a great time to come up with big picture goals and action plans.
It's going to be a great 2010! Lets get busy making memories together.

This family wanted to create a Holiday Photo and I wanted to help! They are warm and wonderful people and we worked well together.

And, Bromley was a sweetie puppy who behaved well for only five months old!
The big bonus was our first snow of the season the night before. We couldn't have planned it better.

As life unfolds, we learn about how blessed we really are. Yes, there are challenges, but life is good. We are all healthy and working together as a family and with a great community of friends.

I hope you are celebrating this time of Thanksgiving giving thanks and remembering all you have.

If you have a grateful attitude and spirit, you will create more to be thankful for. Try and think of five things daily to be grateful for; writing them down is best. This is one of my ongoing goals, I hope you will think of making it yours, too.

So many emotions come when I think about launching my new business. There is so much to do! I have spent a lot of time learning and practicing and now it is time to jump and share my craft. I look forward to helping many capture special moments forever!
